Let’s work so that there is a ‘break through’ in solving the problem of labor migration: Prime Minister Prachanda

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has instructed to prepare a plan to solve the problems of the citizens who have left the country for employment.

In the discussion program on existing problems and solutions related to labor migration held today at the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Office, he instructed to collect the details of the citizens who are in labor migration and the real data and study and research of the problems faced by them immediately.

Prime Minister Dahal said, “Regarding foreign employment, there is a common problem in the Middle East. The problems of other countries in Asia, Europe, America and the Gulf are not of the same nature. Therefore, first of all, the number of people who have gone to work from our country, the type of work they are doing, the current situation, what is documented or undocumented? Prepare a summary of it.”

Looking at the trends of the past 10 years, what kind of problems have been seen, what are the legal issues related to labor migration there? The prime minister says that real and actual data, study and research are needed on other matters. He mentioned that the problem can be solved immediately.

Prime Minister Dahal mentioned that the country suffered when it was poor and said that it is necessary to make foreign employment and labor migration systematic and transparent so as to focus on the direction of making the country rich.

Stating that a special campaign should be launched to bring foreign employment into a systematic, transparent and legal framework, he instructed to make a special plan on how to end fraud in foreign employment.

Prime Minister Dahal said, “All the problems have come because our country is poor. If the country was rich, workers from other countries could be brought in. Now, focusing on the direction of making the country rich, foreign employment and labor migration should be brought in a systematic, transparent and constitutional framework.

Stating that there is a lack of actual and real data on the citizens who are in labor migration and the problems they face, he directed to collect those details immediately for study and research.

From today’s discussion, to gather the real details of labor migration, the working group headed by the Chief Secretary, which has members from Finance, Labour, Foreign Affairs and other secretaries, has been given time to prepare and submit a draft action plan within five days. Based on this, it has been decided to send a letter to all embassies and ask for suggestions from all Nepalese embassies regarding the necessary data and information for the government.

After the study from the embassy, it has been decided to hold a comprehensive workshop, make strategies and plans and implement them for three days on August 24th, 25th and 26th with the participation of all Nepalese ambassadors abroad and other concerned bodies of Nepal.

Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Labor Employment and Social Security Minister Sharad Singh Bhandari, Foreign Minister NP Saud, Chief Secretary Dr Vaikunth Aryal, Labor Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office Secretary, Foreign Affairs Secretary, Director General of Foreign Employment Department and others participated in the discussion.
