Kathmandu Metropolitan City Allows Sale of Domestic Flowers at 33 Designated Locations

The sale of domestic flowers has started at 33 various locations designated by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City

The sale of domestic flowers has started at 33 various locations designated by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The flowers have started to be sold at the locations specified by the KMC Environment Management Department.

A crowd of traders and buyers has been seen at Swayambhu Bhagwan Pau since early morning among the designated locations. The Environment Management Department stated, “The Government of Nepal, using the authority granted by Section 15, Sub-section (60) of the Environment Protection Act, 2076, has completely banned the production, import, sale, distribution, or storage of plastic garlands and bouquets throughout Nepal.”

Similarly, KMC has also issued a notice prohibiting the import, sale, distribution, or storage of plastic garlands and bouquets completely since previous years.

KMC claims that this arrangement has been made to ensure market access for Nepali farmers by meeting the growing demand for flowers with domestic production.
