Menstruation twice in one month, is it a sign of any disease?

Menstruation is usually 28 days apart. However, regular menstruation within 21 to 35 days is considered normal. But sometimes menstruation can repeat in a short period of time.

Like, within 10 days of menstruation, another period starts. This not only makes them more difficult, but also creates doubts – ‘Why is menstruation happening so fast?’

Thus, the recurrence of menstruation in an abnormally short period of time is not considered normal. Why is this happening?

There is not just one reason. Menstruation may repeat in the same month due to various reasons.

Uterine infection

Bacteria from the vagina infects the uterus through the female organ, which is called pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). It causes vaginal swelling and pain. It also has irregular bleeding.

Hormone disorders

Menstruation is disturbed due to hormones in women’s body. Bleeding occurs twice a month due to the effect on the inner layer of the uterus (endometrium) due to the decrease in the hormones estrogen, progesterone or testosterone produced by the ovaries. Menstruation is not regular even if the thyroid hormone is low or high. As a result, the problem of menstruation occurs twice a month.

If a tumor develops in the uterus

Menstruation can also be irregular in the case of a tumor growing inside the uterus. It is called ‘uterine fibroid’ in medical language. Bleeding in the middle of menstruation, heavy bleeding. Similarly, irregular bleeding occurs when the flesh grows in the mouth of the uterus. If the estrogen hormone is too much in the body, the uterus may grow.

PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease)

When a woman’s ovaries produce irregular hormones, it becomes difficult for the eggs to be expelled. In such a situation, menstruation is delayed or bleeding from the uterus is intermittent. This disease also increases the risk of childlessness.

pregnancy

Within 20 weeks of pregnancy, a little bleeding may occur. Some may experience light bleeding during pregnancy, which is called ‘implantation bleeding’. If there is a lack of progesterone hormone, blighted ovum (pregnancy without an embryo), threatened abortion (intervention towards the beginning of pregnancy) etc., bleeding can occur in between. Rest and medicine are needed at this time.

Effects of birth control pills

If you miss a meal between the temporary family planning pills that should be taken regularly, taking the emergency contraceptive pill frequently also causes menstrual disturbances.

Menopause

The cessation of the menstrual cycle in women is called menopause. Menstruation stops after a woman reaches the age of 40 or 50 years. In this way, menstruation becomes disturbed during menopause. Sometimes menstruation occurs frequently and sometimes menstruation stops for a long time.

Another reason for irregular menstruation is stress. Women who are going through extreme stress also do not have regular periods. Therefore, in case of menstrual disturbances, it is necessary to consult an obstetrician and gynecologist.
