PM Prachanda insists on willpower to improve TU quality

Kathmandu, Dec 18: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said it is essential for Tribhuvan University (TU) to cultivate willpower and determination to navigate challenges posed by globalization in the 21st century.

He advised the TU to ensure quality improvement to address the challenges in the globalised world market.

Addressing the 49th Convocation Ceremony of Tribhuvan University at the local Dashrath Stadium today, PM and University Chancellor Prachanda said, “The pressure put by the globalised world market has gone out of control and time demands us to find out obstructions in producing globally competent human resources and address this gap.”

According to him, it is necessary to review questions about ‘diminishing faith’ in the institution.

“Why the roles of TU academicians have not been significant,” he questioned, adding that the lack of implementation of an academic calendar in TU and frequent obstructions in its business including teaching-learning activities are matters of concern. “Who is responsible for all these,” he said.

“We are advocating for non-politicized and independent academic institutions while at the same time, we are running for personal gains over the TU,” he said, adding that each citizen should have opportunities to receive a quality education in an accessible way.

Urging the University leadership to make efforts to ensure that it provides quality education, he added that the government is already playing a guardianship role towards that end.

He hoped that fresh TU graduates would utilize their skills, and knowledge for the cause of the society, wishing them a successful life with a sense of responsibility and integrity.

He took time to say that economic indicators have improved following the one-year’s tremendous efforts. However, expected results are yet to be achieved, he said, hoping a wider support and cooperation from each quarter including the intellectual youth circle of life to the government’s ‘genuine efforts’ for the betterment.
