This is how Jajarkot Darbar, damaged by the earthquake, was seen (with pictures).

Birendranagar, Friday night at 11:47 pm, an earthquake of 6.4 magnitude occurred with its epicenter at Ramidanda in Jajarkot. The earthquake has caused huge loss of life in all the districts of Karnali including Jajarkot.

Due to the earthquake, the 250-year-old palace in Sadmukam Khalanga Bazaar of Jajarkot, which has historical and archeological significance, has suffered major damage.

The palace, which carries the existence and history of Bisei-Chaubisei kingdom After the palace was destroyed due to the earthquake in 1990, it was rebuilt and made into four floors.

According to historians, the capital of Jajarkot state was initially in Jagatipur. The horse of then King Dev Singh, the grandson of Jajarkot state founder Jagati Singh, liked Takura, the current district headquarters of Khalanga, and the capital was moved from Jagatipur to Khalanga in the 16th century as it was suitable from a security point of view when the war was going on.

Although it was an ordinary palace in the beginning, in the 30s of the 18th century, the then king Gajendra Narayan built the palace. According to the design of the famous Kaligarh Nakche brought from Bhaktapur, the palace was built by carrying bricks from Rukum’s Chaurjahari.

A few years ago, the Jajarkot Palace was also listed among the 100 tourist destinations of the country announced by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

The midnight earthquake has caused heavy loss of life in all the districts of Karnali including Jajarkot. This is the strongest earthquake since 2072.

153 people including 83 women and 70 men died in the earthquake in Jajarkot and Rukum. A total of 338 people were injured. Among them, 243 people have been discharged from the hospital after treatment and 95 people are still undergoing treatment.

As the earthquake struck in the middle of the night when people were sleeping, many people were trapped inside their houses and died.

Mainly, two districts of Karnali province, Jajarkot and Rukum West, were heavily damaged. Major damage has been done in Jajarkot’s headquarters Khalanga Bazar, Nalgarh Municipality and Rukum’s Aathbiskot Rural Municipality.
