Chinese assistance crucial for Nepal’s prosperity, affirms Deputy PM Shrestha

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha underscored the significance of Chinese assistance in Nepal’s economic prosperity, stating that Nepal-China cooperation plays a pivotal role in the country’s infrastructure development.

Speaking at the ‘Silk Road Youth Forum’ organized by Silk Road International Think Tank Exchange Centre, the Sino-Nepal Media Society, and the World Sinology Centre at Kathmandu, DPM Shrestha highlighted the transformative impact of joint projects, including roads, bridges, and energy initiatives, which have not only strengthened connectivity between Nepal and China but also promoted regional cooperation and unity.

Emphasizing the importance of cultural exchanges, Shrestha noted that common cultural heritages and traditions serve as a solid foundation for fostering understanding between the two nations.

“Socioeconomic relations between Nepal and China for common development are exemplary,” he remarked, highlighting the benefits of bilateral cooperation in sustainable development and inclusive growth. DPM Shrestha praised China’s ‘Belt and Road Initiatives’ (BRI) as a pivotal mechanism shaping South Asia’s economic landscape, with its focus on connectivity, infrastructure development, economic cooperation, and exploration of new potentials in the region.

DPM Shrestha affirmed that Nepal-China relations are rooted in ancient and traditional respect, understanding, and cooperation. He expressed confidence in China’s commitment to assisting Nepal in its socio-economic development.

Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Xie Yu, emphasized that Nepal-China relations are based on friendship, mutual trust, and strategic partnership. Additionally, Deputy Mayor of Madhyapur Thimi in Bhaktapur, Bijay Krishna Shrestha, expressed eagerness to welcome Chinese tourists and highlighted the city’s development as a tourist destination.
