Staying in Nepal and earning 67 billion dollars in one year by working in IT

It has been found that Nepali IT companies and freelancers have earned more than 67 billion 672 million rupees in 2022 by providing services to foreign countries from Nepal. Such statistics were found in a study conducted by the Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS).

According to the data, in 2020, the IT companies in Nepal earned 88 million US dollars (1 billion 155 million rupees more). The income increased by 26.8 percent and reached 111.5 million dollars in 2021 (14 billion 63 crore 99 lakh rupees).

Statistics show that in 2022, the income of 80.5 percent of IT companies increased to 201.31 million dollars (26 billion 432 million rupees). Similarly, in 2020 IT freelancers seem to have earned 43.2 million US dollars (about five billion 67 crore 21 lakh rupees). The income in 2021 increased by 21.9 percent compared to before and reached 52.7 million dollars (about six billion 91 million 95 million rupees).

According to the report, the income from IT freelancers reached 69.6 million dollars (about nine billion 1384 million rupees) in 2022 when the income increased by 32 percent. Similarly, in 2020, freelancers providing services through information and technology (ITES) earned 177.1 million dollars (about 23 billion 25 million 32 million rupees). The income decreased by 15.5 percent in 2021 and reached 149.7 million dollars (19 billion 65 million 56 million rupees).

According to statistics, in 2022, the income of ITEC freelancers increased by 63.4 percent and reached 244.5 million dollars (32 billion 10 million 28 million rupees).

From this research, the organization has concluded that Nepal earns 515 million US dollars (about 676.7 million rupees) annually by exporting IT-related services.

In this way, there are 106 IT service exporting companies, 14 thousand 728 IT freelancers (software development and technology) and 51 thousand 781 ITES freelancers (who export IT services from various digital platforms). Statistics show that this amount has increased by 64.2 percent compared to previous years.
